GigaContent redefines operatic performance with The World Opera!

3. november 2010

What does classical opera and new, superfast Internet services have in common? Nothing - untill now! The World Opera is a groundbreaking new concept bringing musicians and opera stars from all over the world together over the Internet. Among the key technology suppliers to the project is GigaContent.

The World Opera's goal is to move the bounds for how opera is performed and experienced by using the plethora of possibilities offered by the global Internet. The World Opera's performing artists - including singers, musicians, and conductors - can be physically located all over the world, but they meet on a virtual operatic stage on the Internet. Singers and other artists can follow and listen to eachother e.g. on giant screens, and together they create an entirely new kind of operatic experience - both for themselves and their audience.

The artists, organizers, and the technical team behind The World Opera are busy testing the concept, and expect to have three permanent facilities ready for operation in Stockholm, Tromsø (Norway), and Struer, repsectively, in the spring of 2011. Shortly thereafter the organizers will invite an audience to expernience The World Opera on the Internet.

GigaContent will deliver a 1Gbit per second data connection connecting an opera-facility in Struer (in the north of Denmark) to the Internet via GigaContent's main technical hub in Taastrup, west of Copenhagen.
