Opera-lover's delight: Carmen
on the big screen
24. June, 2010
Opera is by many considered the greatest classical entertainment
experience, and on the 18. of June GigaContent was instrumental in
giving hundreds of opera-lovers in Aarhus a perfect night at
the opera: A live transmission from Valencia of Bizet's
popular opera Carmen to the huge screen at the
Amphitheatre of the Aarhus Musikhuset.
GigaContent has thus once again been pushing the technological
boundaries for the delivery of live entertainment experiences, and
the trend towards more live, big-screen broadcasts of major
international sports and entertainment events is clear, says
GigaContent.
- Enjoying a great live event on a big screen with lots of other
people and with professional, high-quality sound is a completely
different and much stronger experience than sitting at home or
watching a delayed broadcast. GigaContent's services open up for a
wealth of new entertainment opportunities of this type," says Jan
de Blanck, VP Sales for Giga Content.
GigaContent's broadcast partner in the city of Herning downlinked
the live transmission from Valencia in Spain, after which pictures
and sound were digitally transmitted to the Concert Hall in Aarhus
via a gigabit-per-second GigaContent connection. This was the first
time that a music venue in Denmark has chosen to show a live
transmission of a performance from another venue.
The live transmission is a part of the VIVA EUROPA 2010 programme,
which aims to unite 40 cities in Europe through a free of charge
opera experience. The program also aims at offering all levels of
society access to world-class cultural events. Read more about VIVA
